Slog in the Sand 2018

There was an excellent turnout for the 2018 Slog in the Sand race at West Port with about 50 runners competing in the 10K run and some for an 'unofficial' 5K race.

As per last year the event was held on Boxing day, so a few runners turned up with sore heads and carrying an extra pound or two after their xmas dinners :-) Without a doubt this was the best weather and underfoot conditions we've seen with the sun shining, no wind and firm sand with very little stones affecting the route. Perfect conditions for good times.

Well done to Garry Muir for winning the race for the second time with an excellent time of 37:05. Garry had a clear lead for the rest of the pack and was never troubled during the run. In second place was Alex Soudan who finished in an impressive 40:26. Gary Turner was close by in third in 41:05.

CRC dominated the podium again for the female results with Jennifer Reid winning as first female finisher in an impressive time of 43:33. Susan Turner, who recently one most improved runner of the year, maintained her good form as second female in 48:24. Well done also to Elaine Cameron who finished third in 51:02.

In the unofficial 5K race, the best performance was from Neve Quinn who finished in 25:42.

A massive thanks to the Coastguard for safety and support during the run...and supplying the turning tree at the halfway mark! Also, a big thanks to time keepers, photographers, marshals and organisers of the run. Without their help this wouldn't be possible.
