Runway Race Series 2019

By James Murdoch

A quick one, unfortunately much quicker than my run on the night to round off the Race Series for 2019. Huge thanks to Stewart and his team of helpers - and everyone who made cakes throughout the year - for making such an enjoyable series and mixing things up with some excellent new routes! Not forgetting Elgy for overseeing things at MACC.

For the last race of the series, just a couple weeks after the Tangy run (also excellent if you missed it) we were on the runway - which I always enjoy - with a new experience of running with the landing lights on as the sun set. As is normal this time of year the darkness is upon you in about 30 seconds so we all started in the last of the daylight but it was properly dark on getting back to the start/finish...

Unfortunately I don't think we've any photos of the runway - you'll need to run it next year to get the full experience. In short, tarmac, lights on boxes (that you must remember to avoid), and the straightest - and best maintained - piece of tarmac in all Argyll! As you'd expect it was flat and although not hugely windy the down one side, up the other route really drained the legs even with a fairly slight headwind on the return. This was the second route at MACC this year and thankfully it wasn't the 3-mile puddle we faced earlier in the year, a really nice finish to the series.

A lot of people recovering from GSR & Mid-Argyll Triathlon meant it was fairly relaxed on the night - with a special mention to the '50 Man' John Galbraith. Some effort taking part in that many races throughout the series' !!
