Brian Goodwin 10K Race Report

After a tough 10K at Vale of Leven a couple of weeks ago, Elaine and I decided to enter the Brian Goodwin 10K Pollock park race in the hope of finally finding a fast 10k route....thankfully we weren't disappointed! The race took place on Friday 19th June at 7:30pm, which may seem as an odd day and time, however it worked well with it being the start of the weekend and wish there were more on this day.

The start and finish line were both located at the Rugby club beside Pollock park, and at the same location was a post race BBQ for competitors. The race was well organised with plenty car parking space in the fields beside the rugby club which was handy, especially if you're just driving up on the day.

On my warm up I bumped into James McEachran and Stephen Blackstock, who both competed in the same race the previous year. Stephen had recently completed the Edinburgh marathon in an impressive 03:36, however he was carrying an injury on his ankle into the race and was confident prior to the race. James was coming off a strong run in the MOK in 45 mins and was hoping to improve on his time from last year of 44:19. Elaine had finished the Half Ironman in Arran just five days previous, so was just hoping to get a strong run in without pushing too hard for any PB, but still managed to get one! See below for timings and positions:

Stuart McGeachy - 19th 35:08 (PB)

James McEachran - 165th 44:08

Elaine McGeachy - 216th 46:17 (PB)

Unfortunately the injury Stephen carried into the race was causing issues and he pulled out after the first couple of miles. However, we think it's a minor knock and hopefully Stephen is back out running this week.

In summary, I would recommend this race to anyone looking for a fast route. The event had a nice relaxed atmosphere and the fact it was a Friday night meant everyone was in a good mood! Unfortunately we couldn't wait about for the post race BBQ, hopefully we'll sample it next year :-)
