I’m still undecided whether I was still high from the MoK Run or sleep deprived but Sandy fancied running another 10k, so after some searching we settled on the Brian Goodwin Memorial 10k as it didn’t clash with anything else we have going on with the kids and their activities. The final persuasion for me was a two shifts off the milking, a long lie and shopping!!!!

So on Friday 17th June, we arrived at Pollock Park to pick up our race numbers. The weather was dry but a little humid, good running weather. We hadn’t been there long when the other CRC members Kerry O’May, Stephen Blackstock and James McEachran arrived. Stephen and James set off to find fellow Campbeltonian Kenny McLeod. After a wee warm up on the rugby field, it was race briefing time. This was when it hit, there was some serious runners here, including toonies Kenny Campbell and Jennifer Reid.

The race seen 388 runners competing. All runners were piped to the start line and at 7:30pm off we went. The race was advertised as fast and flat, maybe that’s why we had so many speed bumps to contend with! But don’t be fooled there is a gradual hill in the course which is fine the first time but on the second is a killer on the legs!!

Jennifer and Kenny were running under Ronhill Cambuslang Harriers. Kenny’s time of 32:47 a personal best for himself placing him 5th overall and 1st V40 male. Jennifer had a great time of 42:09.

PB’s were all round on the night. Stephen had a great time of 41:46. Sandy got his sub 45 he wanted of 44:58 (unfortunately StuWeb mixed up his time and has his chip and gun time the same). Hats off went to oor Kerry who had been unwell all week and only started eating again on Friday ran an amazing time of 46:37. James had a fab time of 46:39 although not a PB but still a great run after struggling with injury recently. Me a time of 1:01:39 and not forgetting Kenny McLeod running a great time of 44:06.

Post race beer and burgers were available to all runners. The Brian Goodwin Memorial 10k is definitely a race I would recommend to take part in. Sandy and I will certainly be doing it again next year!
