Carradale Canter 2016 5K and 10K

Post date: Jul 11, 2016 12:49:08 PM

Well done to all CRC members who made the short journey up to Carradale this Sunday for the second year of the Carradale Canter race. For those unfamiliar of the format, the event consists of a 5k and a 10k race (or as it's known in the Dale a 5k and another 5k!) which take in most of the sights of the Village. It's a cracking route consisting of road, beach, trail, forest track and even a bit of grass around the football pitch, which I personally think it more enjoyable than pounding a road for the same distance. The beach section especially is a highlight for visitors and the terrain has been in good condition the last two years as been quite firm, so it's been enjoyable and not too challenging.

Unfortunately the weather wasn't too kind with a smattering of rain for the entire race and presentation, however it didn't dampen any runners enjoyment...possibly same can't be said for spectators!. There was great support form the locals who were marshaling and cheering on the runners, which is always good to see and hopefully the event is now established and bring in more tourists (or as toonies like to call them 'strangers') to the area. The organisers have made a great effort with the event and hopefully our club can support the races more over the coming years.

Below are details of the CRC podium finishers:

5K

Euan Charlwood - 1st male junior and 1st overall 00:26:10

Sandy McLean - 2nd male 00:27:50

Susan Turner - 1st Female 00:29:28

William McLean - 2nd Junior 5th overall 00:30:04

10K

Stuart McGeachy - 1st male and 1st Overall 00:37:20

Jennifer Reid - 1st Female 00:43:59

Kerry O'May - 3rd Female 00:50:54

Trudy Kennedy - 1st Female Vet 00:55:28

If I've missed anybody or got anything wrong above please let us know.

A big thanks to the organisers, marshalls and Carradale support for putting on such a great event.
