Gigha Challenge 2014

Post date: May 5, 2014 11:53:34 AM

Despite weather reports of torrential rain and high winds, a large number of the CRC contingent travelled 'overseas' to the Isle of Gigha on Saturday 3rd May for the annual Gigha Challenge. Luckily the Island escaped the worst of the forecast and the event attracted people from around Argyll and from all ages. CRC members competed in all aspects of the challenge including the 5k run, 11 mile run and 11 mile cycle and it was pleasing to see the podiums filled with blue jerseys again!

Both the 5k and 11 mile race started at 1pm but going in opposite sides of the island first. Unfortunately, runners were faced with a strong wind in one direction which proved challenging.

The 5k race proved a popular choice this year and CRC males and juniors picking up the prizes with -

  1. Cameron Campbell
  2. Andrew Dott
  3. Malcolm McMillan

CRC continued to sweep the board with prizes in the 11 mile race with -

  1. Stuart McGeachy 1.07
  2. James Murdoch 1.09
  3. Tommy Morran 1.11

And the females following in their footsteps -

  1. Jennifer Martin 1.18
  2. Emma Morran 1.24
  3. Elaine McGeachy 1.27

In the 11 mile cycle Elaine McGeachy also managed to get on the podium for the second time of the day picking up 3rd place overall in a time of 42 minutes.

Times are approximate as no official times have been confirmed so times we have are based on Garmin. We'll update the post with official times once we receive them.

Unfortunately there wasn't time to get a group photo at the end... a lot had disappeared into the Gigha Hotel for a 'coffee'!
