XC Weather and BBC Weather websites were checked and refreshed countless times before Sunday’s GSR but for once they got it spot on with heavy rain and wind. However, it didn’t dampen the spirits (too much) of the thousands of runners who took part in Scotland’s biggest 10k and Half Marathon. The Campbeltown contingent are a hardy bunch and took the weather on head on to achieve some fantastic performances even in those challenging conditions.

The atmosphere at George Square was electric with the big names of UK and worldwide athletics such as Calum Hawkins, Andy Butchart and Jo Pavey step up to the start line alongside the masses. There was still plenty of support around the course but it was noticeably quieter due to the weather but that meant more were inside cheering from indoors with even a few CRC vests making it ‘on the tele’. With fantastic PBs for Lorraine MacDonald in the 10k and for Jennifer Reid in the half marathon but Stuart McGeachy was undeniably the star performance of the day, collecting a very worthy PB of 1.14.15 in the half distance, comfortably passing the 3rd lady podium winner on the finish straight into Glasgow Green. Bravo!

As well as the Olympians and World Champions there were lots of familiar faces around too from Campbeltown and localities, which was great to see and hopefully some of them will join the club in the future. Unfortunately it just wasn’t the day for catching up at the letter ‘C’ at the family and friends area – it was a day for getting back to the hotel as quickly as possible for a hot shower! Here’s hoping for sunshine next year!

Well done to everyone who took part. Below is a summary of the CRC members –
