Having taken part in the swim/run the evening before (see Eoin Smith’s report) as an add on to the swim the next day-well if you go all the way to Loch Lomond you may as well kill two birds……-I did the 2 mile GSS event on the Saturday having stayed overnight at Palumbos in Balloch and enjoying a huge fish supper.

As my time was later in the day I took in some of the sights in and around Balloch and Loch Lomond Shores and was able to see the elite women start, including Kerry Anne Payne an Olympic 10K open water swimmer. By the time the elite men were due to start I was in the starting area for my swim and chatting to Dougie Vipond-as you do.

The weather was kind and the water a good temperature. Once again I had an enjoyable swim and find it so much nicer than the up/down swimming of the chlorinated pool.

The more you do the more you learn and I think my navigation was much better so I wasn’t swimming more meters than I needed to do and I think this was reflected in my time being 9 minutes faster than last year.
