CRC had a healthy turnout of members entering the London Marathon with 7 runners competing in the 26.2 miles course on Sunday 13th April. This year CRC were given two club places this year which were taken up by Jocelyn Richard and Johnny Girvan. Kenny Campbell, Jennifer Reid and Charlie Dott entered via their good for age times, Elaine McGeachy was successful in the ballot and Jamie Girvan entered via a charity place.

This was the first marathon for the Girvan bros’ and they couldn’t pick a bigger or better race to break the duck. All the other runners had entered London in previous years and were hoping to achieve PB’s on the course. Once again the weather was glorious and the atmosphere even more electric than usual with Mo Farrah competing.

Unfortunately, Kenny had to pull out the race at 14 miles due to a hamstring injury. Prior to that he had been running well and completed the first half of the course in 1hr 17mins and on for beating his time of 2hr 40mins from the previous year. Hopefully the injury isn’t too serious and Kenny can return soon.

Well done to everyone who completed the race as the conditions were tough due to the extreme heat. Below is a list of the timings:

Special mention to Johnny Girvan who proposed to Eilidh Cook at the end of the race. Johnny attached the ring with cable ties to his Garmin for the entire race so thankfully he was still in good shape to get down on one knee at the end of the race!

For the record Eilidh said yes!
