Slog in the Sand 2016 - Report

Post date: Jan 14, 2017 11:25:16 PM

CRC's annual post xmas race Slog in the Sand took place on Tuesday 27th December. There were unseasonable conditions for a change with sunshine and a slight breeze for the outbound section. The Beach conditions were reasonable, with only a few small sections with soft sand and stones. There were thirty four runners who made the small trip to Westport beach to try and blow away the cob webs of festive food gorging!

Well done to Garry Muir who comfortably finished first in 40:02. It was a great effort by Garry considering he ran most of the race with an injured ankle and would have produced a clear sub 40 time if it wasn't for the injury! The other podium finishers were taken up by Stuart McGeachy finishing second in 41:59 with Craig Metcalf a close third in 42:21.

Congratulations to Cara Gorman who had a great run fending off Jennifer Reid by finishing first female in 47:20. Jennifer was a close second in 47:31 and Emma Morran was third in 50:24.

CRC would like to thank the Coastguard for supporting the event again and providing assistance at the halfway marker. A big thanks also to all our time keepers and bakers who provided post race treats! Slog in the Sand race wouldn't be possible without all their help and is very much appreciated.
