As the weather deteriorated and heavy rain battered the West coast of Scotland, the Cross Country Championships at Bellahouston Park on Sunday remained a fixture for the hardy souls who attended. This weather of course played havoc with the ground conditions and it was a tad MUDDY to say the least! Competitors looked like they had completed MACC Challenge all over again!

It was a tad muddy!

The course length varied depending on the age/category and this consisted of various laps of the boggy, hilly Bellahouston Park meaning the course continued to get deeper in mud as the day progressed.... We can be thankful it at least stayed dry (sort of!)

It was fantastic to see Campbeltown Running Club and Campbeltown being represented in various competitions during the course of the day with Gregor Campbell running a stormer of a race coming in just 20 seconds behind the U13's winner in 5th position and big brother Cameron working hard to come in 14th in the U15's. In the senior races Jennifer Reid proved again that cross country races were her forte completing the 6,300m course in 32.35 in 40th position and Elaine McGeachy trying it out cross country for first time (with great support from Donald, Sarah, Jennifer, Kenny, Graham and not to mention Stuart - thanks!!) finishing in 64th position with a time of 35.13.

The pinnacle of the day was the male senior event with Matthew Turner performing amazingly gaining a silver medal in a cracking time of 37.49 for the 10k route, Kenny Campbell 11th in 40.04 and Stuart McGeachy in 43.57 in 48th place. It was also great to see a friendly face of Graham Crawford finish 3rd in M55 category in a time of 45.22.
